Why I support The Millie Rose Foundation

I support The Millie Rose Foundation because I am the founder, and most importantly, I am Millie Roses Mum.

Millie is my beautiful daughter, and after losing her, I wanted to find a way to turn some of our pain into something positive. The Foundation has been created in her memory, with the hope that it can make a real difference to children, families and our local community.

I want to create a foundation where people feel welcome, supported and included. Sometimes people are struggling but don't know where to turn to, or they may find it difficult to ask for help. I want us to be there for those people and let them know that they don;t have to face everything alone.

I also want to create opportunities for families to spend time together, make new friends, try new activities and, most importantly, make happy memories.

Everything we do is inspired by Millie and the kind, caring and loving person she is and was. I want to make sure her memory continues to have a positive impact on other people's lives.

My experience supporting children

I have experience working in schools and wraparound care, where I have supported children of different ages, personalities and needs. I have always really enjoyed working with children. One of the most rewarding parts for me is seeing a child grow in confidence and start to believe in themselves.

Sometimes a child may be nervous about joining in, meeting new people or trying something different. With a little encouragement, patience and support, it can be amazing to see them come out of their shell and realise what they are capable of.

I have also worked with children with disabilities and understand that every child is an individual. Some children may need extra support, more time, or someone who understands their needs and doesn't make them feel different.

I want to bring this experience to the foundation by helping to create activities, workshops, days out and events where every child feels included.

My aim is for children to feel safe, valued and able to be themselves, while having the opportunity to learn new skills, make friends and built their confidence.

My fundraising experience

Fundraising is something I have been involved with for many years. When I was just 14 years old, I did a sponsored bike ride to Seaton Carew to raise money for Help for Heroes. It was a big challenge for me at the time, but it taught me that when you really believe in something, you can push yourself and achieve more than you think.

In 2022, I took part in a charity rally to Benidorm and back, raising money for The Great North Air Ambulance. This gave me experience of fundraising on a much larger scale and showed me how much can be achieved when people come together to support a goo d cause.

More recently, I have organised and taken part in a charity event raising money for The Great North Children's Hospital. This has given me even more experience in organising events, bringing people together, encouraging donations and creating fundraising opportunities.

Through these experiences, I have learned that fundraising isn't just about raising money. It is also about bringing people together, raising awareness and giving people something positive to be part of.

I hope to use everything I have learned to help The Millie Rose Foundation grow and continue making a difference.

What I hope to bring to the Foundation

I hope to bring my experience, compassion and understanding to The Millie Rose Foundation. I have always wanted to help people, but losing Millie has given me an even greater understanding of how important support can be when life becomes incredibly difficult.

I know that sometimes the people who need help the most are the people who find it hardest to ask for it. They may not know what support is available, they may feel embarrassed, or they may simply feel like they don't want to be a burden to anyone.

I want our foundation to be somewhere people can come without feeling judged. Somewhere they can talk if they want to, take part in activities, meet other people or simply enjoy being part of something. I also want to bring my experience of working with children and my understanding of the importance of inclusion. I want to create opportunities for children and families to build confidence, learn new things, have fun and make memories together.

Most importantly, I want to build something that truly represents Millie.

Millie was and is loving, caring, kind and full of life. I want those qualities to be at the heart of everything we do.

The Millie Rose Foundation is her legacy, but it is also about the future. It is about taking something heartbreaking and using it to create kindness, support, opportunities and happy memories for other children and families.

If we can make even one person's journey a little easier, make one child smile, or help one family feel less alone, then I will know that we are making a difference in Millie's name.
