🚗💜 The Man Behind the Journey 🐰

When we look back at Buddy’s Journey to Benidorm and Back, it's easy to focus on the miles, the places we visited, the memories we made and Buddy travelling with us.

But every big journey has someone behind the scenes making sure everything actually happens.

For Team Millie, that person was Grandad Bill. 💜

While we were busy enjoying the adventure, Grandad Bill had a very important job to do — keeping us moving, organised, fed and, most importantly, getting us there and back safely! 😂

🚗 The Driving

Let's start with probably the biggest job of them all…

The driving!

Thousands of miles.
Four countries.
Ferries.
Motorways.
Mountain roads.
Tiny roads.
Long days.
Early mornings.

Grandad Bill was behind the wheel, getting Team Millie from one destination to the next.

From County Durham all the way down to Dover, across to France, through France and the Pyrenees, into Spain and eventually to Benidorm — and then turning around and doing it all again to get us home.

There were some seriously long driving days, and by the end of some of them, we were all ready for a proper rest!

But Grandad Bill kept going.

Every mile closer to our next destination meant another part of the journey completed.

🏨 The Hotel Organiser

Of course, when you're travelling thousands of miles, you need somewhere to sleep!

That was another one of Grandad Bill's jobs.

Booking the hotels.

Finding somewhere suitable.

Making sure we had somewhere to stay after a long day on the road.

Keeping track of where we needed to be each night.

And making sure we could get checked in when we arrived.

After spending hours in the car, there is nothing better than finally arriving somewhere and knowing your room is already sorted! 🏨💜

Grandad Bill had that side of things covered.

🔑 "Right, We're Here!"

And then came another important job…

Checking us in! 😂

After all those hours of driving, someone still had to get us through the door.

While the rest of us were probably thinking about sitting down and getting our bags sorted, Grandad Bill was making sure everything was organised and we were properly checked in.

It might sound like a small thing, but after a huge day of travelling, those little things make a massive difference.

🍽️ The Food Finder

And then there was perhaps one of the most important jobs of the entire journey…

Finding food! 😂🍽️

After spending hours on the road, we obviously needed to eat.

Grandad Bill became our unofficial food finder, looking for places to stop, checking out where we could get something decent to eat and helping us find somewhere when we were all getting hungry.

From quick stops to proper meals, finding somewhere to eat became part of the adventure too.

Some stops were planned.

Some were completely random.

And some were definitely needed because everyone was hungry! 😂

🗺️ Keeping Everything Moving

A journey like this doesn't just happen.

Behind every photograph and every destination, there are countless little things that need organising.

Where are we going next?

Where are we sleeping?

When do we need to leave?

Where can we stop?

Where can we eat?

How far do we have left?

Which road are we taking?

And eventually…

"How much longer?" 😂

Grandad Bill was a huge part of keeping all of that moving.

While we were experiencing the adventure, he was constantly thinking about the practical side of it.

💜 And Then There Was Millie

But there was something much bigger behind everything Grandad Bill did.

Millie.

This journey was never simply about getting from one country to another.

It was about taking Buddy to the places Millie loved.

It was about travelling in her memory.

It was about creating new memories while carrying hers with us.

And Grandad Bill was part of every single mile.

Every time he started the car.

Every road we travelled.

Every hotel we arrived at.

Every meal we stopped for.

Every time we finally pulled into somewhere after a long day.

He was helping Team Millie continue Millie's journey. 🐰💜

😂 The Things You Don't See

When people see the finished photographs and the updates from a trip like this, they see the fun parts.

They see the mountains.

The beaches.

Benidorm.

The sunshine.

Buddy.

The smiles.

But they don't always see the work that happens behind the scenes.

They don't see the planning.

The bookings.

The driving.

The checking in.

The searching for food.

The early mornings.

The long hours.

The tiredness.

The decisions about where to go next.

And that's why we wanted to take a moment to say:

Thank you, Grandad Bill. 💜

You weren't just the driver.

You were the organiser.

The hotel booker.

The check-in man.

The food finder.

The person making sure we got where we needed to be.

And a very important part of Team Millie. 🐰💜

🚗🐰 Every Mile Was Worth It

Looking back now, there were thousands of miles between home and Benidorm and back again.

But every single mile became part of Millie's story.

And behind so many of those miles was Grandad Bill, making sure we kept moving forward.

So while Buddy may have been the little face of the journey…

And Millie was the reason behind it…

Grandad Bill was one of the people helping make the whole thing possible. 💜

From the first mile to the final drive home…

thank you for getting us there, getting us back, keeping us organised, making sure we had somewhere to sleep and somewhere to eat.

We couldn't have done the journey without you.
