To Benidorm and Back – In Memory of Millie Rose

When people look back at Team Millie’s Charity Drive – To Benidorm and Back in Memory of Millie Rose, they might remember the photographs, the videos, Buddy travelling across Europe, the beautiful places we visited and the thousands of miles we covered.

But there was also a huge amount happening behind the scenes.

And one of the biggest jobs was keeping everyone back home involved in the journey.

That was one of my jobs.

📱 Keeping Everyone Updated

While Grandad Bill was busy doing the driving, booking hotels, checking us in and finding places for us to eat, I had a completely different job.

I kept everyone updated.

Every day, I was making sure people knew where we were, what we'd been doing, where we were heading next and how the journey was going.

I didn't want people to just hear from us when we eventually got home.

I wanted them to experience the journey with us, day by day.

So wherever we were, I was thinking about what we could share.

A photograph.

A video.

A little story.

A funny moment.

A difficult moment.

A beautiful view.

Or simply a quick update from the road.

🎥 Keeping the TikTok Lives Going

One of the biggest parts of keeping everyone involved was our TikTok Lives.

Whenever we could, we took people along with us through the live videos.

People could see the roads we were travelling, the scenery around us and little snippets of our adventure as it was actually happening.

It meant people weren't just seeing the finished photographs afterwards.

They were able to come along with us.

They could see Buddy travelling.

They could see the journey unfolding.

And they could share some of those moments with us while we were actually there.

Sometimes we were driving through incredible scenery.

Sometimes we were just travelling along another endless stretch of road.

And sometimes there wasn't anything particularly exciting happening at all! 😂

But that was the reality of the journey.

It wasn't just the destinations.

It was everything in between.

📝 The Daily Mini Blogs

Alongside the TikTok Lives, I was also keeping up with our daily mini blogs and updates.

Every day had its own story.

Day 1 – Dover.

Day 2 – Dunkirk and Rouen.

Day 3 – Rouen to Bordeaux.

Day 4 – Bordeaux through the Pyrenees to Zaragoza.

Day 5 – Arriving in Benidorm.

Day 6 – Walking in Millie's footsteps.

Day 7 – Our final day in Benidorm.

Day 8 – Starting the journey home.

Day 9 – Biarritz to Tours.

And finally…

Day 10 – Home. 🏡💜

Each day had something different.

Some days were full of excitement.

Some were incredibly emotional.

Some were exhausting.

Some were filled with beautiful scenery.

And some were simply about getting through the miles.

But I wanted to capture them all.

Because I knew that one day we'd look back and want to remember not just where we went, but how it felt.

💜 Capturing Millie's Journey Too

The daily updates weren't just about telling people where Team Millie was.

They were about telling Millie's story.

Every day gave me another opportunity to talk about her.

To explain why we were there.

To share a memory.

To show people somewhere she had once been.

To talk about Buddy.

To remind everyone that behind this charity drive was a little girl called Millie Rose.

When we reached Benidorm and walked in the places Millie had walked four years earlier, those updates became incredibly personal.

I wanted people to understand why those moments were so emotional.

Why seeing certain places could make me smile one minute and cry the next.

Why Buddy being there mattered so much.

Because this wasn't just a holiday.

This was our way of carrying Millie with us. 🐰💜

🐰 Buddy Was Always Part of the Updates

Of course, we couldn't do a charity drive called Buddy's Journey without Buddy making an appearance!

Buddy was photographed throughout the trip.

She travelled through France.

She crossed the Pyrenees.

She arrived in Spain.

She made it to Benidorm.

She visited places Millie loved.

And then she travelled all the way home again.

I wanted everyone following along to see Buddy's journey too.

Because Buddy represented that little piece of Millie that we were carrying with us.

Every photograph of Buddy became another part of the story.

😂 Not Everything Went to Plan

And, of course, not everything was perfect!

There were tired days.

Long drives.

Unexpected moments.

Stressful moments.

Weather.

Very early mornings.

And plenty of times when we probably wondered why we'd decided to drive thousands of miles! 😂

But I shared those moments too.

Because I didn't want to create a perfect version of the journey.

I wanted people to see the real journey.

The good.

The difficult.

The funny.

The emotional.

The exhausting.

Everything.

💜 Bringing Everyone Along

One of the things I loved most about doing the daily updates was knowing that people were following along from home.

People who couldn't physically be there could still see where we were.

They could watch the TikTok Lives.

They could read the mini blogs.

They could see the photographs.

They could follow Buddy.

And they could experience little pieces of our adventure with us.

It made the journey feel bigger than just the people sitting inside the car.

It became something that Team Millie shared together.

🐰💜 Behind the Scenes Wasn't Always Easy

Keeping up with everything while travelling wasn't always easy.

After a full day of driving, exploring and experiencing everything, the last thing I sometimes felt like doing was sitting down and writing an update.

But I wanted to do it.

Because I knew how important it was.

I wanted the story documented.

I wanted the memories recorded.

I wanted people to know where we'd been.

And most importantly, I wanted Millie's story to be there alongside every stage of the journey.

So even when I was tired, I kept going.

Another update.

Another photograph.

Another little blog.

Another live.

Another memory.

💜 Ten Days. Ten Stories.

Looking back now, those daily updates have become a record of our journey.

Not just a record of where we went, but of what we experienced.

They capture the excitement of setting off.

The nerves.

The long drives.

The scenery.

The laughter.

The tears.

The memories of Millie.

The arrival in Benidorm.

Walking in her footsteps.

And finally…

Coming home.

🚗 The Charity Drive Was a Team Effort

Grandad Bill was driving.

Buddy was travelling.

And I was keeping everyone updated.

Behind the scenes, everyone had their own part to play.

But at the centre of it all was one little girl.

Millie Rose.

This whole journey was about remembering her.

Sharing her story.

Keeping her name alive.

And making sure that every mile meant something.

All of them became part of her story.

And now, looking back, I realise that I wasn't just keeping everyone updated.

I was creating a memory of the journey that we will be able to look back on forever.
