Why I support The Millie Rose Foundation

I support The Millie Rose Foundation because I believe there needs to be greater awareness and understanding of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML), the devastating impact it can have, and the way it affects not only the person diagnosed but their entire family.

No family should ever have to experience the heartbreak and pain that Kimberley and Makayla have faced following the loss of Millie. Their story is a powerful reminder of why raising awareness, supporting research, and providing compassion and support to families going through the unimaginable is so important.

By supporting The Millie Rose Foundation, I hope to help honour Millie’s memory and ensure that her beautiful life continues to make a difference to others. I want to help spread awareness of AML, bring hope to families facing difficult times, and support the Foundation in its mission to make a positive difference within our community and beyond.

My Experience

Since leaving school, I have gained experience looking after children of various ages, primarily through caring for the children of family and friends. Through these experiences, I have developed patience, understanding and the ability to adapt to each child's individual needs. I have also supported children with additional needs, including autism, as well as children living with medical conditions such as Type 1 diabetes. These experiences have helped me understand the importance of providing a safe, caring and supportive environment where every child feels valued, included and understood.

My Fundraising Experience

Throughout my previous employment, I have been involved in fundraising for a range of charities and worthwhile causes, including Cancer Research UK, the British Heart Foundation and the RNLI. I have also supported local fundraising efforts for individuals and community groups, whether that meant raising money for local football clubs or helping families with funeral expenses during difficult times.

These experiences have shown me how much of a difference fundraising and community support can make. They have also strengthened my belief that even small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact when people come together to support a cause that matters.

What I Hope to Bring to the Foundation

I hope to bring compassion, understanding, dedication and a genuine desire to make a positive difference to The Millie Rose Foundation. I want to help provide support, guidance and practical assistance to individuals and families who may be going through some of the most difficult times in their lives. I believe that nobody should have to face challenging circumstances feeling alone, and I would love to help create an environment where people feel listened to, supported and understood.

Another important goal of mine is to raise awareness of acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). I hope to help spread knowledge of the condition, its signs and symptoms, and the importance of seeking medical advice when something does not feel right. By helping more people understand AML, I hope we can encourage earlier recognition, more conversations and greater awareness within our communities.

Ultimately, I want to be part of something that makes a genuine difference. Whether through supporting families, helping organise fundraising events, spreading awareness or simply being there for someone who needs a helping hand, I hope to contribute to the Foundation's mission of bringing people together, offering hope and creating a lasting positive impact.
